The money will help cover the cost of the big clean-up
127 million to cover flood costs
Europe is handing over £127 million to help the UK recover from the floods that hit many areas this time last year.
The June and July 2007 floods were the worst seen in 60 years in this country.
Nine people were killed and billions of pounds of damage was caused to homes and businesses.
The cash from the EU will be used primarily to rebuild infrastructure that was damaged or destroyed.
This includes the costs of new roads and school repairs, as well as mains water pipes and dams to help prevent future floods.
The money will also subsidise the cost of the rescue operations and the subsequent clean up.
Government figures released last week revealed that 4,700 families were still in temporary accommodation one year on.
However that number is going down rapidly as they start to return home.
