Could you build your new home from a flat pack kit?

Build a flat pack house for just eleven grand

Here's something that could bring a lot of joy to first-time buyers, provided they have a bit of land available.

Argos has started to sell complete five bedroomed homes for just £11,000. And the only catch – your house will be delivered to you flat pack, and you have to build it yourself!

It is known as a Helsinki home, and is essentially a giant log cabin.

It comes with double glazed windows and has a felt shingle roof. Pay a little extra and you'll get under floor heating and oak laminate flooring.

You get it delivered to your home by the catalogue firm, as long as you pay the £4.95 delivery charge. Unfortunately it's considered too bulky to be picked up from store!

But the firm promises you won't need any special skills or tools to put it together. Just a ladder, saw, screwdriver, mallet and a tape measure.

There's no bathroom or kitchen included so you'll have to buy those separately and plumb them in yourself. Otherwise your new home takes about two days to build.

If you're seriously interested in this, you'll need some land and probably planning permission. Argos suggests you also get a proper concrete base laid first.
