This is Herm Island - could be yours if you can get the mortgage

Buy your own island for just 15 million

If the cooling property market is making it hard for you to find the perfect home, here's an idea: why not buy your own island for just £15 million?

Herm is one of the Channel Islands just three miles from Guernsey. It's only one and a half miles in size, but comes complete with three white beaches.

The current owners have built it up over the last half a century, and are now selling a 40 year lease. For your money you get a manor house, 13th century chapel, and 80 acres of farmland.

As the island is a fully-working tourist attraction you will also have responsibility for up to 150 staff, and be required to keep it open to visitors. Oh – and you have to run a ferry once a day too.

But you would effectively be buying a tax haven, as you'd be paying the same low taxes as other Channel Island residents.

It all sounds like a good deal... wonder how easy it would be to get a mortgage for £15 million...?
