The new certificate will tell tenants how energy efficient their homes are

Energy deadline approaching for landlords

If you own property that you rent out to others, you're being warned to get a new compulsory certificate by the end of September.

There's just over three months left until new tenants in every rental property must be given a compulsory Energy Performance Certificates (EPC).

The idea is to help make some of the UK's rental homes greener. Figures say 27 per cent of the country's carbon emissions are emitted by domestic housing.

But the National Approved Letting Scheme believes a lot of landlords don't know about the 1st October deadline.

To get one you will need to hire a qualified Domestic Energy Assessor.

The certificate will be valid for 10 years, and also makes up part of the Home Information Pack that must be put together for every home sold in the UK.
