Sales of houses like these don't seem to be affected by the current property market problems

Property problems don't seem to affect the rich

If you're lucky enough to live in a home worth a million or more, looks like the current property problems aren't affecting you.

Sales of seven figure homes went up by 36 per cent last year, says the Halifax.

In total 8,257 million pound properties were sold in Great Britain in 2007, compared to 6,057 in 2006.

78 per cent of them were in London and the South East.

But don't go thinking the capital is the only place with posh homes. Only 56 per cent of million pound property sales were in London in 2007 – hugely down from 77 per cent in 1997.

961 of those sales were in the Kensington, Chelsea and Westminster areas. They actually accounted for a fifth of all of the country's seven figure sales.

If you're after a £2 million+ property, 68 per cent of those were sold in London last year.

In the northern regions, Edinburgh saw the greatest number of million pound property sales, with 148 homes sold in 2007.
