It's a lot of hassle, but an extension can add a load of value to your home
Improvements can add 55 grand to your house price
We're being told how to add up to £55,000 of value to our homes just by having some building work done.
GE Money has worked out that the average house will go up in value by that amount by significantly increasing the amount of space available.
That means three major building projects: doing a loft conversion, building an extension and adding a conservatory.
It asked 100 estate agents how this would affect the sale value of a property.
The loft conversion adds the most value – an average of 12 per cent, which is £22,000 to the price of the average property.
An extension will add just under £20,000, and a conservatory £12,000.
But not all improvements will add huge value to your home.
The survey found that buyers weren't that interested in green improvements. Putting solar panels on the roof will only add £1,500 to the value of your home.
