You won't need to get a Hip before selling your home until the end of the year now

Last bit of Hips is delayed

The final part of the Home Information Packs has been delayed – just three weeks before it was supposed to come in.

At the moment you don't need a Hip until the day you complete your sale. The original plan was that by the 1st June of this year, you would have to have one by the first day you put your property on the market.

But the government has announced that it is delaying that change until the end of the year.

The housing minister Caroline Flint believes the housing market needs the extra flexibility at the moment, because of the property slowdown.

The industry is delighted, as Hips are pretty unpopular with most estate agents and experts.

On top of the delay, there is a series of revamps that are also going to be made to the packs to increase the quality of the information available.

Hips were rolled out throughout last year, becoming compulsory for all properties in December.
