We're going to get greener homes

A campaign to make the construction of new homes in Britain greener is fully underway – and has just got backing from Gordon Brown.

It has been launched by the Federation of Master Builders. They want to create a safe, sustainable and practical construction industry to create the homes of the future.

In all, the FMB wants to reduce the emissions from building new homes by just under 50 per cent.

It plans to do this by minimising waste, reducing carbon emissions from new homes, and applying innovation to building materials and current practices.

It also plans to develop a more sustainable work force.

All of this has impressed the Prime Minister. He has joined the leaders of the Conservatives and Lib Dems in endorsing the campaign.

The FMB campaign is being supported by research being done by the Low Carbon Futures team at Oxford University,
